Living Matrix

James Oschman is a pioneer in the field of energy medicine, and the originator of the living matrix concept. The living matrix is the material substrate of the organs, tissues, cells, and subcellular elements in the human body. It is the part of the body that is traumatized or injured and is the focus of virtually all therapeutic modalities. An understanding of the structure and properties of the living matrix is invaluable for all schools of therapy.

In this workshop, Dr. Oschman will introduce you to exciting research and experiential methods that are leading to a picture of human structure and function that is congruent with the practices of a broad range of hands-on, movement and energetic therapists. In the process, we will discover powerful new ways of envisioning our work and of explaining it to others, including the clients who are curious about and receptive to the new medicine that is emerging. We will also explore the science behind the promising new field of energy psychology.

Some of the most exciting recent developments concern how the tissues in the body form and how one can connect with the formative process through an understanding of the relationship between water and other living molecules.

Mainstream doctors and scientists are beginning to appreciate the importance of the observations made daily by so-called “alternative” therapists. The result is the emergence of a new and highly successful understanding of how the human body works in health and disease. There is no question that this emerging model will replace the parts of the present medical system that are not working. The reason is that the orthodox medical model focuses mainly on the body as a collection of parts rather than as a whole system living within an environment that has many implications for health.  In addition, some health conditions are energetic in nature and are not approachable by paradigms that leaves energy out of the picture.

Living Matrix CellThe conventional focus on biochemistry/ pharmacology is being supplanted with a paradigm that is far more encompassing. In the new model, drugs, with their limited capacity to stimulate the healing process, take their place as one of many possible interventions. The holistic model is moving forward because it has a far richer and diverse scientific basis; it is successful in promoting and restoring wellness; the health care consumer resonates with the whole-system perspective and likes the personal attention of its practitioners; and holistic approaches are capable of resolving health issues that conventional medicine cannot cope with at all.

Moreover, conventional medicine usually focuses on the symptoms rather than the causes of disease and failure to heal. It is the ability of massage and related methods to go directly to the causes of medical issues that is impressing patients everywhere, and that is the source of the good news that is traveling rapidly through the public’s awareness.

NOTE: This workshop is designed for licensed practitioners and students of the healing arts, as well as interested members of the academic community. The class will include a blend of lecture, discussion, and experiential exercises.

James Oschman, PhDJames L. Oschman, PhD is the President of Nature’s Own Research Association, and a leading authority on the science behind a wide variety of bodywork, energetic and movement therapies. He has a bachelors degree in biophysics and a doctoral degree in biology from the University of Pittsburgh. He has worked in major research labs around the world, and his scientific papers have been published in the world's leading journals. And, to learn about the theories and practices underlying complementary methods, Jim has both taught and attended classes at various schools around the world, and experienced a wide range of bodywork techniques, from A to Z (Acupuncture to Zero Balancing).

Jim is also the award-winning author of Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis, published by Churchill Livingstone. This book is giving the most ardent skeptics a logical and scientifically sound basis for a variety of  therapies. Elsevier Health Sciences published Jim’s second book, Energy Medicine in Therapeutics and Human Performance. This research provides new insights into the ways the body can function in peak athletic or artistic performances and in profound therapeutic encounters. Jim’s research has led to useful insights that can help all therapists better understand and advance their work and explain it to others.

The workshop will focus in part on “spontaneous healing” and the treatment of trauma and traumatic memories. The latest development in quantum physics and quantum healing will also be discussed. Jim has both the academic credentials and the background in alternative therapies to carry out his explorations. He has also become involved in the development of cutting-edge medical devices and other applications of the emerging concepts of energy medicine. Jim is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the National Foundation for Alternative Medicine, and is the recipient of their Founders Award. He has also received a Distinguished Service Award from the Rolf Institute, and a Distinguished Service Award from the Second International Fascia Research Congress held in Amsterdam  in 2009.You can learn more about his work on his website: www.energyresearch.us.
