Hakomi for Bodyworkers: Exploring the Healing Relationship

with Morgan Holford, LPC

May 8-9 | Thursday-Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm
16 continuing education contact hours | $325 | practitioners only

Healing RelationshipHakomi is a unique body-mind therapy that was created by Ron Kurtz, one of the pioneers in the field of Somatic Psychology. This work is utilized worldwide by psychotherapists and counselors, as well as massage and bodywork therapists, in a variety of treatment settings.

Morgan Holford, a certified Hakomi Therapist and Trainer from Santa Fe, has taken Kurtz's original work and adapted it specifically for the needs and scope of practice of hands-on therapists. Her approach is called Hakomi for Bodyworkers.

As a method, Hakomi places great emphasis on the relationships we create with our clients. It is the container of the relationship that allows for the work to happen, not just the particular massage or bodywork modality we use.

This workshop explores ways to create therapeutic relationships that make room for feelings and insights to emerge. This is done through honoring the need for appropriate boundaries, and learning to manage relationships in a way that helps clients feel safe. When you bring a higher level of skill to this aspect of your practice, clients will feel more acknowledged and be able to engage actively with you in their healing journey. As part of this process, we will explore how your beliefs about your work and your role impact the relationships you form with your clients.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn about the Hakomi Principles as applied to hands-on practices
  • Experience how to create dynamic, empowering therapeutic relationships
  • Identify and practice specific language skills for facilitating mindfulness in your clients
  • Explore how your beliefs influence your approach to your clients

(NOTE: This workshop meets the ethics requirements for license renewal with the North Carolina Board of Massage & Bodywork Therapy, and for recertification with the NCBTMB.)
