Nurturing the Mother: Prenatal and Perinatal Massage

with Claire Miller, LMBT

June 27-29 | Friday-Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm
24 continuing education contact hours | $485 | Practitioners only

Nurturing the MotherThroughout the world, and across time, massage has been used to support women during the childbearing year. In keeping with this tradition, Claire Miller has developed a program which integrates the mystery and power of the birth experience with sound clinical knowledge and effective methods for prenatal and perinatal massage.

Nurturing the Mother is offered for massage therapists, childbirth educators, labor assistants, midwives, labor & delivery nurses, and anyone who desires a deeper knowledge of birth and massage – and the wonderful experience of bringing them together. The course includes the following content areas:

  • Preconception Massage. Preparing for conception honors the sacredness of the mother, father, and baby in spirit form. Through massage techniques, herbal wisdom, yoga poses and guided visualization, you will learn to help couples enhance the co-creating process.
  • Pregnancy Massage. This extensive section includes full-body massage techniques, proper positioning for the pregnant mother, specific strokes and points to relieve discomforts, as well as contraindications and cautions for massage therapy. You will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a pregnant volunteer.
  • Support for Labor and Delivery. You will learn massage techniques, working with a variety of positions for the birth mother, plus tools for nurturing and offering emotional support in labor.
  • Postpartum Massage. Massage and the realignment of the birth mother’s body, support for breastfeeding, and strokes to alleviate postpartum tension will be covered.
  • Infant Massage. You will practice massage strokes on a doll in a sample sequence which can be taught to parents who want to learn how to massage their child.

Through demonstration and practice, in the sharing of our stories, and in the willingness to be present with the heart, mind and spirit of the birth process, we will open ourselves to the transformation which occurs for all those involved in a birth.

NOTE: The workshop fee includes a 108-page training manual. Birth videos will be shown on one evening. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a "Blessing Way" ceremony to be held one evening during the program.

Certification in this modality for licensed healthcare practitioners is available from the presenter for an additional fee of $60, following the completion of out-of-class assignments and practice sessions

Fertility Massage Intensive

with Claire Miller, LMBT

June 26 | Thursday, 9:30am-5:30pm
7 continuing education contact hours | $145 | Practitioners only

This intensive will give the massage/bodywork therapist special techniques to support a couple planning to conceive. Claire offers a multi-faceted approach to the emotional and personal journey around fertility for your clients. This is a protocol that you may use with natural methods, or medically supported conception. The techniques involve a combination of cranial sacral alignment, reflexology, colon cleansing, and deep pelvic work. This work honors sacred sexuality -- and your client's process of reclaiming her body. You will also be able to teach couples work they can do with/for each other.
