ITEC Reflex Practical Exam

Hi there I'm new here and hope someone can give me a bit of advice.

I'm coming to the end of my ITEC Reflexology diploma - theory exam on Saturday (reflex and A&P) and practical on Monday. I'm very, very nervous about the practical and have been preparing answers to the oral questions as I'm sooooo nervous I'll just freeze up and not be able to say anything.

I know ITEC are quite strict about appearance and don't like tendrils of hair hanging down or anything apart from small stud earings etc etc, but what about short hair? I have very short hair (Judy Dench style) and my tutor has told me that I need to wear a HAIRNET

I really can't see why this is necessary and feel that this would seriously compromise my confidence and ability to look my client (or anyone else in the room for that matter) in the eye because I'd just feel so silly!

Has anyone else had experience of this and had to wear a hairnet? Or known of any reflex student who has had to wear a hairnet? I don't want to risk annoying the examiner or losing unnecessary marks for poor appearance, but my gut feeling is that this is a bit OTT?

I think that your tutor is being a bit OTT, my hair is short but not as short as yours and this wasn't a problem and wearing a hairnet was not suggested. How about slicking it back with gel, as long as you look the part, i.e. professional, you should be OK I think.

I did the reflex practical this year with ITEC, those with long hair were advised to tie it back and to have it off their necks and not to have their hair touch their collars. I have short hair and just made sure it was newly cut so it looked smart, we all passed with not a hair net in sight! I think you have to look smart and professional and there are marks given for appearance so do take time to dress smartly, but remember the bulk of the points are reflexology related. Good luck!

Good luck with your exams how great will you feel when it's all over !

I am trying to imagine the effect of wearing a hairnet on a client, I think the people that visit me would be either terrified if it was their first treatment or bent over double laughing if they were regulars.

I would feel able to offer them a pound of sausages though.

Lou, I can't stop laughing at your comment about feeling able to offer your client a pound of sausages!! That was my point exactly!! I honestly would not be able to look my client in the eye if I had to wear a hairnet! I don't think I'm my tutor's favourite student atm for questioning her advice, but hey-ho, nothing I can do about it.

I can't wait to get the exams over now. I've done as much studying as I think I can do now
