Thaicam this is YOUR post numbered 73, and yet you do not even listen to your own advice. You are making yourself look a fool by continually posting about a subject you clearly have absolutely no idea about. It is now starting to irritate even the most patient of our members.

My suggestion, listen to your own advice and stop posting on subjects you have no idea about, instead read and learn, not all of us want to continually read your uninformed drivel.

The touts on Bangla have increadsed in numbers, year on year since the tsunami - FACT, no need for any input from y ou on this it is FACT, provided to us by residents and by a member who owns several go gos in Soi Seadragon.

The touts have increased drinks lists printed on the reverse of their cards, this increase they receive as commission, bribe money, whatever you wish to call it - FACT

This increase has nothing to do with any show, they do not provide one, many times they try to claim this, ie make you pay, when they havn't taken you in the go go - FACT.

This is not a normal means of earning a living it is a scam - FACT

If the business owner objects, he will receive threats, personally and to his property - FACT

Now please stop trying to prove yourself right on subjects you have no idea on and are clearly totally wrong.

theyre annoying, i usually just shake my head and walk past.

I hate it when they follow you down Sea Dragon tho after youve already made your mind up on where you are going (eg Suzy Wongs) and they march with you despite you saying no no NO!

We even stopped dead in the street ignoring the tout, turned around and walked through between the bars, lead them all over the place. Eventually he got the message but if looks could kill...

Yea probably a tout issue.

Still i kinda liked the place, and they had a few interesting girls working there. Amongst other a very attractive somewhat chubby girl with an amazing smile. *note to self, don't ever pick up two girls from the same place in a short time* The first one would probably like to punch me in the face for not picking here up the second time I was there, but The smile of this chubby one was what made me come back, and I don't regret it at all

And no need to go looking there for her, I'm pretty sure she is still working somewhere, but lets just say that the first girl did NOT approve of her going with me and would probably like to give her a good punch in the face as well. However the first girl is probably still around.

Patong's New Police Chief Lays Down the Law

THE NEW chief of police in Patong plans to discard the system of touting for bar business in Soi Bangla, established by his predecessor.

Colonel Arayapan Pukbuakao plans a whole lot of sweeping changes. Not much of what the old chief, Colonel Grissak Sommoonnark, set up is likely to be continued under the new colonel.

The touts, organised into mauve shirts with a number on the back, are among the first to go. We couldn't see one in uniform in Patong last night.

So he's done away with their uniforms so the police can't be seen to be sanctioning what the touts do...big deal...they are still there and operating just as they did before ripping people off.

In today's world, there are many sides to just about every issue. No matter which way you decide, there's going to be the others who will declare you to be wrong. Dodger's idiom "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink" is so true, but it's good to decide first if the water is good, especially when there are many sources to choose from.

Anyway, the last time I was talking to someone about this idiom, we looked it up on the internet, and in addition to what we were trying to find, we came across this little gem: YouTube - SLOW RIDE (you can lead a horse to water....)

Had them do the same - even though I know where I am heading the tout walks along as if he is "bringing" me to the gogo - I have wondered does he get a "per capita" payment for each person he brings or appears to bring to the go-go?

I walked into one establishment in SD one time and was told that it would be 300 baht for a beer.A tout had followed me in and was standing proudly beside me.
I told the waitress that he had followed me in and that i had been in there before and the beer was 120 baht.
The tout despondently turned around and walked out and i got my beer for 120 baht.

So in that instance i would say he would have got 180 baht,

Goddam it all, why dont we just exterminate EVERY person who is not a tourist or an expat or a BG, or who spends less than 2000 baht a day, or who pays more than 1000 baht LT, or who eats non farang food, or who cant pass the standard english test or who doesnt dress "right". ???

They are only touts and tuk tuk drivers for FF sake. get a grip you guys. They only exist because it is a tourist ghetto which has been created in the first place by us visiting, if you dont like them then dont go there, otherwise deal with it like any rational human being does by politely saying "no" and moving on.

some people just want to have a whinge about anything. ;-)

Since you work with the police, why not have a huge banner made up that could be posted right at the police station at the end of Bangla, out in front, where it would be difficult to miss it?

Suggestion - don't just say "don't rent jetskis", which will be ignored. Instead, say "Renting a jetski without insurance may cost you XXXX Baht!!" where you fill in the appropriate number.

I know you can't list everything, but you can list those things that might cost a tourist a huge amount of money.


Similarly, why warn people not to go with touts? Just give the warning "Always ask the price of a drink before ordering" which will quickly solve the tout problem.

Maybe compile a list of the ten worst "scams" in Patong, and make up a catchy saying for each one of them, that you can print on this sign.

You can probably get every hotel in Patong to post these in each of their rooms, if you do this nicely and print up a few thousand on A4 size paper, titled "How to Avoid Scams in Patong".

I mentioned in a previous TR that when I went into Soi Seadragon last month with a BG to see a show, after ordering 2 drinks we were presented with a 800bt bill. I hit the roof and they eventually changed it to 240bt. Reading this thread now makes me realise that I was probably followed in by a tout, claiming to have brought me in... which didn't happen. Not good for tourists and in the long run, not good for the bars as people won't go back.
