IHM question

Hi all,

Can you help with a tricky homework question please?

I have to state the advantages and disadvantages of IHM. Advantages are easy, but I'm stumped on the disadvantages.

What an odd question!

I've sat here for 5 mins thinking, then couldn't come up with anything so had a look in my oldtextbook...I really am stumped. Part of me wonders whether the question is worded correctly, and whether they are not really asking what they mean to ask. The only disadvantage I could think of was that it's not easy for clients to do it themselves, but it's a silly one really. I did have a laugh though, I searched on google for 'disadvantages of IHM' and up came a review site...someone put for their disadvantage: you smell like vinegar after!!!!!

Oh dear, not getting very far here are we? Lets hope Gussie can come up with something.

Hey Russ,

I logged off and just as I was about to turn of the computer I thought of one: Indian Head Massage can causeRSI, repetitive strain injury, for the therapist.

Same as Azalia, racked my brain - grabbed all my course notes and we never covered anything like disadvantages. We have contra actions and conditions which need more care but no disadvantages. Maybe that's the answer! Mention the RSI for the therapist and say to your knowledge there are no other disadvantages.

Hmmm, don't think so - your karma is your karma - it's not something you can give away or something that somebody can take from you, willingly or unwillingly! My opinion only!!!

Our tutor was going on about something the other day regarding washing your hands after a treatment as not to pick up negativity form your clients?
Grounding?

Agree with washing the hands (cold water and up to the elbows) to get rid of negative energies.

In my mind grounding is something else what needs to be done in addition - specially if the client seems a bit 'spaced out' or sleepy. Grounding could be drinking a glass of water, marching on the spot for a few second, as they lift the knee touch the knee with the opposite hand etc, let the client put her/his feet on the floor, place one of your hands on each of their feet and visualise the energy flowing through the soles of their feet into the earth.

I think there are many ways of grounding, you have to find one that is comfortable for you and your clients.

Yep, on the right road with negative energy. In other holistic therapies we are taught to close ourselves off from negative energies. This could be done in various ways (again, you need to find something which you are comfortable with!). You can 'ask' for protection, you can visualise a ball of white light around you and ask that no negative energies enter this space, or you can just do the cleansing routines after. If you do other energy therapies you are also 'taught' (made aware of?) that you do not use your own energy and also that you do not 'draw or take in' energy from you clients.
