Massage chairs

I have been thinking of buying a massage chair (the weird shaped ones for Indian Head/back Massage) and wondered if anyone has one and what their comments are on them - good and bad.

My main concern is the height of the chair - they look quite low to me and I'm worried about my own back playing up during a treatment!

Just finished my IHM course and been looking at different chairs..currently lugging a low back dining chair around with me! It does the job but I keep wondering if there's a specific IHM chair.

I bought mine from Costco it is super and only cost 159.99 - they have just got them back in stock in the Leeds store. Only downfall is you have to pay cash/debit card. No credit card.

Hi - I've just finished doing a 4 hour charity IHM stint, and used the darley on-site massage chair.

I have used both an everyday director's chair, and also the on-site chair. My preference & feedback from clients is that the on-site chair is better/prefrable. I use my body + small rolled up towel at neck while I'm doing the face element of the treatment as support.

I was fortunate to pick up my chair as a one-off at my local costco, but have seen posts here from time to time letting folks know when they're in store. Mines cost a fantastic £98 quid - absolute bargain for a great chair.

I was considering buying an on-site massage chair recently and contacted my tutor to see what she felt. She said that she bought one of those chairs a while back and ended up selling it within two weeks because her clients complained it gave them neck and low back pain. Apparently it's also too fiddly to adjust for the neck and scalp massage too[&:]

Following that review I decided not to touch one with a bargepole!

A small piece of advice- when I was looking around for one to buy online, I noticed that not all of them state whether they're fully adjustable or whether it's only the seat that's adjustable- comfort wise I'd get one that's completely adjustable because you would be able to adjust it to fit your client exactly, although the down side would be that it would be time consuming.

Hiya, how are you getting on with the chair?

I would like to get one but as a beginner don't want to splash out too much for one.
Is Ebay any good- Ihave had a look, or is there an alternative?

I use one of those blue kneeling chairs from Staples. It cost around £70 and collapses for easy transportation. I get around the problem of supporting the clients when they relax by having a pillow to hand and slipping it between us when I start to work on the face. That way no boundaries are crossed and we are both comfortable.

Wow! i use a fold up chair from Ikea £7.50 everyone has been very comfortable on it.

I have an on-site chair and I and my clients think it is fab!! I use it for Indian Head, as well as back massages. I am mobile, and find it light and easy to lug around and put up.

I bought mine on ebay for about £160, and although its good, Im not sure how long it will last. I imagine in a few years I will have to upgrade, as it gets alot of use.

I haven't had a problem with the height. I thought they were all adjustable in both the seat, and the chest pad (as well as the face cradle). I have also had some very large clients on there, and the chair has remained sturdy.

I dont find the height a problem when massaging, in fact if you hold a good stance, with one foot in front of the other, it helps give you a good pressure inot the back. When doing the face, I also use a pillow on my chest, and ask the client to lean into it.

I tend to give my clients the choice of chair or bed when I give a back massage, and generally they chose the chair!

I bought a chair off of ebay and can honestly say I've had no problems with it at all.One thingwas that I didnt get any instructions with it, and it was only by chance that I found the face cradle & chest panel were able to extend - but thats more to do with my non-mechanical mind than anything else! So far it doesnt squeak & it all stays in place during the treatment and I've had a fairly large person using it.

Only issue would be with the height - its not hugely suited for someone over 6ft as the face cradle doesnt extend quite that high but I'm not sure if any of the more expensive models are any more comfortable.

I won it for about £120 but watch out as some of the shops (including the one I got it from) charge VAT which you don't find out about until you are asked to pay. That bumped it up to almost £150, however I still think its worthwhile and its possible to get a bargain. Just don't go for the really cheap looking ones.

Ended up buying a low-back folding office chair from Staples for £19.99 My clients find it comfortable andI use a cushion to support their head while working on their face. I'm a mobile therapist so the light weight and small folded size are important to me.

Hi,
I bought my portable massage chair from ebay last night as i have my first client in a few days! Cost £120 and is a burgundy colour (few colours available). Looks quite funky and isa bit nicer than the other ones that were available.

TBH, I think having a massage chair (if you are mobile) looks professional and says something about you, and that's the reason why I bought it. Also-I want the client to feel comfy.
I'm looking to buy a tunic now and towelling sarongs (managed to locate a towelling sarong on ebay for a reasonable price), but can't really find a tunic ata reasonable price. Can anyone sugest something?
