Goa govt to act against parlours offering `cross-massage’

Panaji, Mar 3 (PTI) The Goa Health Department has decided to crack down against the massage parlours offering `cross massage’, especially in the coastal belt, following a complaint by a group of massage professionals from the North East.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane today said the department received several complaints and a detailed memorandum signed by 30 girls, who hail from the North Eastern states and work in Goa, alleging that they were forced to give `cross massage’ (woman giving massage to man).

Goa has banned both woman-to-man and man-to-woman massage under the provisions of the State Health Act.

The government and the police department will form a special squad which will raid massage parlours, and licenses will be suspended if any illegal activity is found, he said.

The memorandum mentioned 15 parlours, Rane said. Two of them were prominent massage parlours in Panaji, while the rest were in the coastal belt of Calangute, Candolim, Vasco and Colva, he said.

“In the name of massage, lot of illegalities, including prostitution, happen. We will never tolerate such activities,” the minister said.

The health department has also issued a warning to massage parlours operating from five-star hotels in this regard, he said.
