Top of Bangla (Tai Pan, SanSabai, under Tiger) has power now and was open last night...

If power comes back I would say 1 or 2 days clean up to get the least effected Sois going again.. Soi Katoey may well have some issues as its low lieing but structurally looks ok..

I am guessing 5 days approx for stuff not on beach Rd...

(Some) Tiger Complex bars opening at 4pm and Rathuthit Rd has power so Tai Pan etc will be able to operate.

Restoring the power to Soi Sea Dragon downwards towards the beach is the problem now as safty checks need to be carried out as this runs on a separate grid running down beach road - bars could be open tonite if power was restored but not all bar owners have showed up to clean up their bars.

Stevem (Playschool) ready to go and Sea Dragon would be ok for power very soon. Soi Eric just needs washing down and would be ready to go too.

On the sad note of casualty figs - from the Phuket Gazette ... ''Figures just released to the Gazette show that 934 people are confirmed dead in the southern provinces hit by the tsunami, 2,720 missing and a further 10,063 injured'' as of 11.30am 28/12/04.

For those with families now is probably not a good time to be here, but for those used to Asia certainly those who depend on tourism for an income will welcome those able to support the local economy both Thai and farang.

As I posted in another thread, it will be 2 or 3 days before power is restored to the lower part of Bangla, due to the on going operation of retrieving bodies from the the below ground shops and hotels.

Lets all respect this, and leave it at that. Power will be restored when it is considered safe to do so. Once power is restored, cleanup operations can continue and businesses can reopen.

I heard on thai visa recently that all the restaurants in Kamala were wiped out and i know his place is that way somewhere ?

according to the south china morning post, his new place is okay, the owner is currently in phuket vacationing as well and he paid a visit to his resturant and it's fine

Both the restaurants are ok The Red Room is in Bangtao Beach but near the road. However Bangtao area near the beach is devestated.
Silk sits real high on top of a brand new shopping center called The Plaza and is ok as well.
In fact right now with many beach side restaurants closed business is very busy for me and I have very low staffing as some have lost a loved one or their house were demolished. The owner of Silk has just deposited a large amount of money in both staff members accounts who lost their house so their family can buy the basic items to get by. The guy is a class act!

I really feel for the ones here who sold fish by the beach or all the other little businesses that just would get by they are really hurting now.

Gave blood today as I have A- which is needed.

I think things will rebound but it will take some time.

I went to give blood... Apparently I am tequila negative and they didn't need it (sorry gallows humour.. really O+ and they had enough)..

Bad thing was I went to the local Patong hospital to try to give it and it took 15 mins to work out that they had no ability to do so.. even the Doc who was trying to find out where I could donate was stunned that there was no ability to leave blood at all in a hospital.. Then tried Phuket town Vachira.. syetmn set up there but they nedd AB now (both pos and neg)...

Selling beer is making money i gue´s and as far as i understand people need money to start all over again down there both Thai and Farang!

Business come´s first many times´ so even here in some parts ... even i will go to Thailand within 3 weeks spend my money , have "a beer" and go boom boom , of cos´some people wants to know when the bars will open again!
It´s our holiday , we made plans and many of us at this Forum just Love Thailand and Thai people .. with or with out Mr.Tsunami !

Most of the bars they talk about are owned by BM`s or friends to BM`s. So there is a interest in when they open and start business again. We all want our friends to get going as soon as possible, so they dont have to sell and go home,...

No offence intended to the people who have friends or relations in Phuket but many people on this boards and other travel forums seem to be thinking with the wrong heads..wondering and worrying about how the disaster is going to affect getting their usual thai girl shag and I suspect are justifying continuing their visit to Thailand in these troubled times under the pretence of wanting to help out the plight of the thais. This disgusts me! Obviously Tarzan and domifletch you are people who genuinely care and have friends in Thailand (however no need to use bad language on the board Tarzan!) and I respect that.

For those BMs who genuinely wish to help those 'worst' affected by the disaster their effort would be best put towards the Indonesian and Sri Lankan peoples. There is no better time than now for good morality.

You're right Tarzan. The best way to help people overthere is not send message and telling "I'm so sad and so sorry ..." but to go there and to spend our money to help them to start over. As you probably know, Thailand is not Europe, or America, or Australia ... They'll not get help from the gov ... They need us to get the financial support needed to come back to a normal life. I'm currently in singapore but will fly this coming friday to Phuket and I'll give my little contribution ! Hope many people will follow me soon.

CrazySwede, Tarzan, JSD - thats exactly the spirit thats needed here now - whilst probably not recommended for families - for those experienced to life in Asia and dont mind the odd discomfort - direct support via actually comming to spend money to restore what is a heavily damaged economy is whats needed.

There is much grief - but that will only be compounded by scare mongering and the place being diserted.

Yeasterday Mayar Pian got things orgainised and Bangla is now mostly clear of debris ... Beach Road will take much longer to restore ...a lot longer than the 'one month' he suggested it would take.

So if your able to come then dont abandon Phuket or Thailand in general - the Thai people above all need supporting and of course the farangs who've set up business here.

Most of the active BM`s here have friends i LOS, even if many also see it as an adult disneyland..I have also my doubts sometimes about the guys that butterflying. It is not my thing, but i respect those who likes it, as long as they are decent and respectful to the girls.. Ok, now people think that i have a strange oppinion of what respect is, but i dont care.. Those who has been here knows what i talk about.The rest i dont care about...
What pisses me off, is that people like you, that doesnt contribute here (even if you have 55 posts) comes here and try to be the worlds conciouswith their high moral....If you have been in LOS before, get your a ss out from the luxury hotels, spend some time out among the "real" thais, and you will meet a wonderful attitude, and a friendly people. Im not just aiming this to you, i do it to all the people that sneaks in here and read, ask their questions and sneak out again..Dont judge the BM`s that enjoy going to LOS and party, or that they butterfly. All the guys i have met, are really great guys, some friends for life, and we share a love for this wonderful country that has given us more then girls and cheap beer. It has given us friends all over the world. and i have never seen any BM being disrespectful to any girl. Never.

Does anyone know the status of the Lady Bar that is located in the Happy Bars, near the south end of Karon Beach ? I was just over there for a month in November, my 10th trip to LOS. I'm worried about the friends I've made there over the years. I'm also trying to find out the status of the Ruam Thep Inn, also located on the south end of Karon. Info and especially a pic or two would be greatly appreciated.

Its also a gauge of the destruction.. How quickly things return to normal or near normal, how soon people can start to attempt to support themselves..

Believe me if the bars did not open for one month the majority of the girls and staff (who are highly mobile) would be gone, living so hand to mouth and close to the breadline means they HAVE to think about the hard fact of putting money in thier pocket simply to survive.
