If you take a cab you probably won't have to deal with the Police.
As long as you do not have any drugs on you and are not completely
shit faced there will be no issue with the Police 90% of the time.
They will shake you down and you just have to assert yourself and
they will move on to an easier target. Always remember to hold your
money and make sure the cop gives you your ID back. The cops do
not need to hold your money and I never let them.

I don't know the guy or guys giving tours, but it could be money well spent if the guy really knows his stuff. I see vets of these boards get taken all the time, and they don't know how to handle the police, etc. get taken by the chicas..by the meseros....to each his own, and I kind of have a feeling the guy offering tours is no real expert.

When I go on vacation I always go within the US Borders.
I was born and raised in the USA. I vacation one of three
places, depending on the time of year I go to Miami, Hawaii
and Alaska. The only reason I go to Mexico is to monger...
I think it is up to $140 for a passport now and it is good for
10 years. I hope they have a Passcard in the future and it
will be along the lines of a DL and the cost will be the same
between $30-50.Now do you see why I don't need a passport??

You don't need a passport to get a job I just use my social
security card, I've had it for 15 years.

Are you close to the Midway post office in San Diego? The line is usually not that bad for passports. There's a Walgreen up the street at the corner of Rosecrans & Midway that takes your picture for $6 or $7 (compared to the specialty passport picture shops which charge double that). The whole process took me less than 2 hours (including the picture).

Echoing our Esteemed Dr. Choi & Sampson -- I think it is a good idea to always have a current passport, no matter where you live.

passport give you insteand freedom to travel to other countries ans also acts as best ID for all the US goverment and commercial agencies.

many companies now requaire proff od US citizenship and passport is one of the bestway to show proff..

also you could possibily resell it and make a profit..lol

a passport. There is a huge backup right now and I can't
justify spending a bunch of money just to cross a border.
We all have to spend hundreds of dollars and people just
run accross everyday for free. I understand why they do
it but if it ain't broke don't fix it. I say we just leave things
how they have been but what I say doesn't matter. I probably
would pay the money if it was more convenient. The two places
I hate are the Post Office and the DMV. You have to waste an
entire day just to go to these places, the lines are out the door.
Its outrageous......

That reminds me of Houston, Texas. They have what is called a Bordello tours, something like that. The bus load would drive you down to Nuevo Laredo or some other border town and back, thats a 5 hour journery. That one is good as most people on the tours are gone for one and done, and they dont like the hassle of experimenting and finding the hard way. The costs were not expensive, arranged accomodatoin and hey cool drive back and forth without the worries. Maybe the SoCal operators got idea from there

best way to learn zona rojo is meeting ppl on the board and ask them to hook up together and hang together...

this way you can shere beers and watch each others back without any time constrants set by tour guide...

You won't need the passcard or Passport until mid 2009 at the earliest. A passport is a good thing to have, as if for some reason you find yourself needing it, it could be a bitch waiting for it. The passcard will only be good for travel between Canada/US and Mexico/US.

As far as tours are concerned, there is a market for it. I think the guy offering them on craigslist doesn't even know what is going on, but a newbie could benefit from someone that really knows the story in Zona Norte...I've seen guys that have been going to Coahuila for 20 years and haven't a clue about what is going on.

Like I said....I might get the passcard if they have it.
It is suppose to cost less....I'm on a budget and I
don't see the need to monger in TJ anymore after 08.
I've had some great times down there and it has been
many years and I have been lucky to never have any
Std's or serious incidents, I'm just going to enjoy these
last few months and then retire..............................
Who knows maybe the law wont hold up and we wont
need one anyway?

I was just surfing craigslist and some dude is charging to take suckers to TJ for Sex Tours. I've been going down for the last 12 years and this will probably be my last year because I don't think I'm going to buy a passport, maybe I'll get the passcard if they have it. Anyway, I guess if people are stupid enough to pay someone to give them a,"sex tour", more power to this guy.........If anyone needs any info on Brothels or getting laid in TJ I am willing to give it for free. Its bad enough we have to pay for it as it is and it is getting more expensive every year.
