While I absolutely believe the reports of a mugging or two and a police shakedown or two; I firmly believe that's the aberration, not the norm. We certainly have our share of that here in the States.

In my 20+years of going to TJ for mongering, I've never seen a HINT of that kind of trouble. The local politicians and police have a vested interest in not scaring off tourists' money (they'd rather not have the tourists, just their money!)

In the daylight, the border/Adelitas walk is an absolute piece of cake alone. If one were an exceptionally petite, blonde female with a "deer in the headlight" look, who was drunk & devoid of any situational awareness one would STILL probably luck out quite a few times before something happened. That's more than I can say for MOST of the streets I cruise up here.

You don't have to worry about "fitting in" or "standing out". This is a TOURIST area! I've found what others have said to be true: don't flash cash, don't be drunk, obnoxious, or rude, be and look aware of your surroundings and who's where. Sounds pretty much like any city street, huh?

Okay, enough for my ranting & raving. Quit worrying and go for it!

just try finding a mexican friend to go with or go in a group. My first time going to TJ it was my jap friends idea. he took me and showed me what i never knew was there. Me being the mexican friend i watched his back and did all the talking (spanish) for him when it came to money issues. If you don't have a mex friend well then like it says at the begining of this thread "We're safer in numbers." hope someone here could help you out. just post when you would like to go and wait for someone to respond. You should be able to find someone here on this board. or just watch for when someone post they are going and hit him up. well good luck on a good time. i would love to go but not enough cash at the time.

Can anybody play hooky this Friday? Am considering going down there early for afternoon recreation then back up after the SD rush hour, say about 8-ish. Back in the Inland Empire by 10pm.

I know that's tough for folks who have to work on Friday; but it's easier for me to claim I'm working down there for the day!

Sounds like a good idea Interluken, I don't go often because of the same reason. Maybe with 1 or 2 more I'd be more inclined. Just post and check often is probably a good way of doing it too. Anyone going this week or next?

OK. so im am new at this thing but i want there to be a way where people who are intested in the same thing and live in the same area: L.A., OC, SD, to better communicate with each other. A more effective way. I was thinking about setting up a group e-mail so we can find a way for people to go with others if they want to. I will be going down to TJ tomorrow ALONE but dont have a friend interested in the same thing as me. I would have a better time overall if i went with other people. So, let me know and i can set something up. -J.

i'm making the run after work 5-6pm friday my self.... it'll probly be like a 4 hour drive with friday traffic (faster if i got a car pool buddy). serious this time. anyone wanting a ride would have to be on the way (little cash for gas would help too).... leaving from Glendale I plan to take the 5 to the 710 then all the way down the 405, or just take the 5 all the way down, depends on where i would have to pick a carpool buddy up. If you want to go "looking like a baller" sorry i got a used up 2001 stake bed anyone who doesn't care hit me up pm.

I'm looking to make the trip in a couple of months and would like to meet up with some fellow mongers, if I could. It's been years since my last trip to TJ and I think I'd prefer to go this time with some folks who know their way around.

I was thining some time in April...preferrably on a weekend, but who knows?

I usually park on W side, walk to Revolution to warm up at a spot or two, then go to Adelitas for the finale(s).
