The Story of AAA Health Centre closing and the New Opening!

This is just a information update on AAA Health Centre Ltd. and how the system work regarding our facility.
AAA Health Centre opened in June of 1987 and had been operating without any problems until July of 2001, at that time, we have never been a "full Service" facility. In July of that year, there seemed to be an effort to close centres in North York. We had received 2 visits within 3 days by undercover licence officers, and tickets were issued for performing a body rub without the necessary licence. A date was set for a dispute of this charge, and while it was before the courts, the licensing body, sent a letter to our landlord, Crown Life Property Management Company who had recently taken over the property as a power of sale from a mortgage that they had held previously. At that time of the letter, the licensing body had indicated that AAA had performed a body rub without the necessary license, even though the matter was before the courts to determine if we would be found guilty or innocent of the charge. It is our belief that this letter, was sent to intimadate the owner of the strip centre Crown Life into forcing us from the facility. We sent a letter to the Licensing Commission who had sent the letter, basically advising them that they had no authority to have sent this letter, as the matter was before the courts, and they should cease and desist from any further communications of this matter. No further efforts were made by them to send correspondence to the Landlord. However the damage was done, we had agreed to a plea bargain arrangement, to close for 2 weeks, rather than go through further costs and the unknown outcome, which time we used to renovate the facility. On August 5, of 2003 we were scheduled to open. Two days before opening the Landlord locked us out, even though we have never been behind in our rent or had any NFS cheque in all the time we were there. In fact with the exception of the tickets we were a model tenant, never providing any hassels for the Landlord. We pointed this out to Crown Life, however their position was that because we had agreed to this plea bargain, they had the right to exerise the provision in the lease for a lockout, simply because they did not like this type of business in their strip centre.
The resolution of this matter is yet to be made and we are currently looking at what possibilities we may have available.

It continues to amaze me what lengths government officials will go to essentially close down a innocent no trouble facility, when there is so many other more pressing dangerous problems in our society.

Perhaps others have had similar experiences or comments to be made.

Hi Northred,

Thank you for your good wishes, our lawyer suggested a bodyrub licence would not help this type of problem, they simply used the bodyrub licence because there is not a complete definition of what is a bodyrub. At anyrate, this type of licence as I understand it for Toronto is almost impossible to acquire unless you take over an existing business with the licence in place. Regarding the massage, yes, I understand there has been a problem in the past and we have taken steps to correct this. All of our staff are fully licensed, and my understanding from the many repeat clients that we have had, has been excellent. If there is anything different from this, I certainly would be very interested to know. We strive to provide a great service and experience and all of our ladies are train to appreciate this fact. We try and think long term when providing our services. It is the only way, to succeed and to stay in business. Treat the client as you would like to be treated and the business will look after itself.

Thank you for your best wishes for the new year.

Regarding division 52, I honestly do not know, once we received the tickets, we simply handed the information on to our company lawyer to deal with, my thinking is that I simply had no power to change what went on, so let someone that has more experience advise us on what action to take. All in all, it has been a experience we could have lived without. The locking us out I must admit came "right out of the blue" I would never have thought that the landlord would have taken this action. As far as I know the place is still empty. To me it defies logic, The City of Toronto says are far as they were concerned, after the 14 day closure, we were ok to do business, why not the landlord? Life sometimes does not may sense but we still have to live it. I must admit that I was quite surprised that the city officers would send the letter out to the landlord before a resolution of the case. In our society, especially in government, we expect the government to not only do the right and moral thing, but to also maintain an image of doing the right thing for the public's perspection of credabily of government. Failure, to do so results in a whole host of larger problems for the government.

Yes you are correct, we have sent all of the new pics and the new map to our webmaster for the updating and he has promised to have the changes made by the weekend.
We think the new location is even much better than the location on Sheppard in a far more modern upscale complex and a better personal feel to it with more parking. Thanks for the suggestion.

It seems unsurprising that the landlord would "play along;" if they know that they are going to get harassed by the cops due to the nature of your business, that is bad business for them. And while this may lose them a bit of money in the short term, they aren't in the "Biz," and they have no reason to "fight" on your behalf.

I have been at the ("former") establishment on a number of occasions, and was never particularly impressed with the level of service. It was never so hideously terrible as to warrant running, screaming, into the night.

No, it was generally "poor enough" that I'd conclude it a bad idea to return for a good while. I had a couple of good experiences there, which is the only reason to consider a return.

The fundamental problem is that premium prices are being charged for what is definitely not premium service. At the "top level" of service, it's possible to get a decent level of "incall escort" service, which would be rather more liberal of both legalities and of "extensive service."

Too many of the girls weren't that pretty, and were way too expensive.

Well I guess you are right scattered, because in the end, that is what the landlord did, I guess $20,000 dollars in lost revenue, is not a big deal to Crown life.

Regarding your past experience while I am not happy that it happened, non the less I appreciate your honesty and comments anyway. We have made major changes in the staff over the last year, and established a training program for customer service, we hope would correct the problems you were having. Your points were well taken. And from the training program on, we notice a very high rate of return clients, so I guess the changes were necessary. Life is not perfect and we found the need to replace some ladies with others that had better qualities for our business.
For me, I always found it difficult to ask people to leave, but is necessary for the overall health of the business. I hope should you visit us again, you will find the enviroment more appealing this time around. Thank you again for your feedback.
